It seems as though all these nerds are correct. I just downloaded Safari 3 on my PC at work, and it's truly blowing my mind. The image rendering! Wow. On Meatloafing, images unfortunately have to be resized because of (fixable) stage-width issues in WordPress. But I am not a developer so I don't care too much about what Safari breaks, and for now I'll still primarily use Firefox (at least at work), but I think eventually everyone should use Safari 3.

As a web developer, I have to agree with Nick. Safari is a major pain in the ass. The only thing I like about it is its beautiful rendering of resized images.

< rant >

bah. what a bunch of fan-boys you all are. I've been a mac guy since day one, but safari has always sucked. As a web developer I can tell you it's the bane of my existence. Safari3 takes a shit and dies as soon as it opens the new site I've been working on - a site that many developers (besides me) have spent months making sure would work in all major browsers (including safari2). We've decided not to even bother coding for safari3 until they patch it a few times.

FF may update a lot, but that's just because it's gaining popularity and its developers are scrupulous about protecting your security (unlike our friends over at Micro$oft). If FF is slow is might have something to do w/ the 300 tabs you have open, or the 50 extensions you have installed. Extensions (or combinations of extensions) are notorious for causing memory leaks (a friend had a serious problem w/ Adblock Plus the other day, and I'm convinced that Firebug - as much as I love it - is causing problems on my machine).

I believe that a stripped down copy of Firefox will beat out safari every time: It will be at least as fast, and it won't have any of the weird display issues that you get in safari.
