Tuesday, November 6th, 2007

For the sixth year in a row, we were there, daring to dream. The 2007 New York City Marathon always inspires us. This year we felt a certain kinship to the French runners, as shown below. Vive la France!

The money shot: the fastest dudes. (Don’t be offended by the commentary, pls.)

Happy Twin Peaks Definitive Gold Box Edition Day!

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

tp box“Diane, a strange dream to report: I dreamt I was eating a large, tasteless gumdrop. I awoke to realize I was aggressively munching on one of my Air-Pillow Silicone Ear Plugs. Hence the tastelessness. I suspect some unexpressed feeling of aggression is responsible.”

Lindsay Lohan’s Oeuvre On View at BAM this Saturday!

Monday, October 29th, 2007

This Saturday, from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m., the Brooklyn Academy of Music is hosting an event called TAKEOVERBAM. The festivities will include Music, Movies, and Art plus $3 Magic Hat.

lohanMost importantly, one of the theaters will be dedicated to a Lindsay Lohan Mid-Career Retrospective tracing her development from 1998’s The Parent Trap to 2007’s I Know Who Killed Me. Unfortunately, Herbie Fully Loaded and A Prairie Home Companion will not be screened but the inclusion of Mark Waters’ oft overlooked classic Freaky Friday ought to be enough to satisfy even the most rabid of Lohan aficionados.

Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door. For more on the event visit www.takeoverbam.org.

Nobody Told Us It’s National Meatloaf Appreciation Day

Thursday, October 18th, 2007

Thanks. Well anyway, I do enjoy a traditional ketchupy, oniony meatloaf—with mashed potatoes, obviously—once every couple years, but here at Meatloafing we actually prefer our ground beef in burger form. Strangely enough, tonight we dined on cheeseburgers (bloody w/ Gruyère) and onion rings at Dumont Burger in Williamsburg. Sorry, meatloaf. I hope we can still be friends.

Do You Like Comedy?

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

I love a good laugh (who doesn’t?) but am deathly afraid of improv. I mean, it’s usually uncomfortable, tense and confusing, which I think is probably the opposite of funny.

But when my good friends Lisa Whiteman and Todd Levin (who is a fantastic comedian and writer himself) invited me to see an improv show at UCB (that’s Upright Citizens Brigade to you and me), I couldn’t pass it up.

The improvers were actor Scott Adsit of 30 Rock and writer Tami Sagher, also of 30 Rock. They were so, so good! I kept asking if they rehearsed or had an outline or something but I was reminded that the point of improv was to, er, improvise. This was the first improv show that didn’t make me want to hide under my seat cringing. I even laughed out loud.

I never watched 30 Rock before but now I am a fan 4 life. I also learned that I will give improv another chance in the near future. But only if it’s done by trained professionals. Not by anyone’s work friends or anything like that.

DiFara Pizza is Still the Best (4ever)

Sunday, October 14th, 2007

My weekend reached its high point during a trip to DiFara, where the best pizza ever is artfully made by the most loveable man ever. The genius of DiFara is pretty well known and documented, but this time I got a little closer to Dom, when I was invited behind the counter to put my arm around him and smile gleefully.
