TGIMFF

Friday, February 29th, 2008

The weekend is here! Sorry about our meager imacsposting lately, but we’re still reeling from the New Year’s Eve theft incident. I’m waiting to buy a new computer until the iMacs get a little bump. Macrumors.com just told me that “new Penryn based iMacs would be seen next Tuesday, continuing Apple’s pattern of weekly announcements since Macworld.” Fuck you, thieves! Seriously, you are scum and I hate you.

Early Weekend Loaf: Snow Day!

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

You are a unique and beautiful snowflake.

  • Our good friends over at Lunchboxr have started a Flickr group. When you add your photos to the group, your lovely lunch appears on the Lunchboxr home page. See, there’s my grilled cheese sandwich from yesterday. Fun!nubrella
  • Snow is pretty, but wind and rain? No thanks! Get yourself a Nubrella, the revolutionary umbrella that won’t flip inside-out.
  • Jesse L. Martin announces departure from Law & Order; the world cries. So much for my JLM–Jeremy Sisto sandwich. (But he’ll be playing Marvin Gaye in the upcoming biopic, so the world cries again, but the tears are made of joy, not sadness.) [Variety]

  • ZOCALO, a gem of a Mexican restaurant in Williamsburg, has reopened after adding a full bar on the lower level and also adding an entire second level. I thought they’d closed and I was sad for a very long time because I love this place. The remodeled interior is pretty weird—they utilized the space in an odd fashion—and makes me not want to eat on the premises, but the food is still really good and so I can get takeout and eat it in front of the television in sweatpants. Recommended dishes: Milanesa de Pollo Torta, Mole Pork Burrito, most stuff. 295 Broadway, 718-388-2161
  • Favorite non-fancy grocery store cookie: Keebler Fudge Shoppe Fudge Sticks (Fudge Covered Creme Wafers). They’re very fudgy, very delicious—airy yet fudge stickssubstantial wafers filled with a luxurious vanilla creme. (Only recommended if you can limit consumption to five Fudge Sticks per sitting.)

I Love You, Sweet Tooth

oreos, pie, ice cream

Desserts.

In recent months my sweet tooth has really blossomed. It began with small items I could scavenge, then progressed to homemade brownies and ice cream (consumed in bed while watching Curb Your Enthusiasm and Entourage), and plateaued with the simple Oreo. Er, regular Oreos, Golden Oreos (with chocolate creme), and chocolate-on-chocolate Double Stuf Oreos.

And then I met the Pure Milk Chocolate–covered Mint Oreo. These little things are effing amazing, rich, and comforting. My advice: keep them at room temperature and if you want to mash them up in vanilla ice cream, that’s great too.

Another great product for dessert lovers is the Whole Foods pie. We sampled blueberry and apple, but they also have pumpkin and peach-raspberry (and probably others). Blueberry was chosen, and again, paired with vanilla ice cream. Most pre-made pies truly suck, but this tasted like Grandma’s (or mine, honestly). My point: it was delicious, full of fresh-tasting and perfectly sweetened fruit, solid but flaky crust that didn’t get soggy even after 3 days in the refrigerator.

Finally, for those of you who enjoy fine dining, the Chocolate Chip Bread Pudding at Blue Ribbon is the best non-fruit dessert I’ve ever eaten.

Tide: An Appreciation

Thursday, November 8th, 2007

What detergent do you use? Unless you just moved in with your hippie girlfriend or you’re a wash-and-fold kinda guy, I bet the answer is Tide. If it’s not, then you probably have ugly clothes that smell like dirt and/or cheap shampoo.

Also, remember that commercial in the early ’90s (?) where there was a white shirt w/ a big brown stain and a guy wrote something in detergent and then washed it and the written-on part was sparkly white? WHAT WAS THE PRODUCT??

Happy Twin Peaks Definitive Gold Box Edition Day!

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

tp box“Diane, a strange dream to report: I dreamt I was eating a large, tasteless gumdrop. I awoke to realize I was aggressively munching on one of my Air-Pillow Silicone Ear Plugs. Hence the tastelessness. I suspect some unexpressed feeling of aggression is responsible.”

BOBMy Favorite Dale Cooper quote (Season 2, Episode something). Twin Peaks: The Definitive Gold Box Edition (The Complete Series) arrives in stores today! Pilot, Seasons 1 & 2, tons of extras. Wheee! I pre-ordered mine from Amazon, but it’s not shipping until November 5th. wtf. Anyhoo. These DVDs will be my bff this winter.
